(AUSTIN, TX) — Like many companies, the film industry is learning how to navigate amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, and a Texas-based theater chain may have the answer to how to safely go to the movies during these unprecedented times.
Alamo Drafthouse has developed a model where people can rent out an entire theater for their pod of friends and family for $150, eliminating the risk of being in a theater with people you don’t know.
After a patron reserves the theater, they get a link to send to their pod where each person chooses a seat, along with the film they want to view, the options ranging from current films like Tenet to beloved hits such as Jurassic Park, The Goonies and more. Groups average to around 10 people.
“After a massively successful rollout in select cities we’re excited to be able to offer this at Alamo Drafthouse theaters nationwide that are currently open,” Alamo Drafthouse CEO Shelli Taylor says in a statement, according to Entertainment Weekly.
“Our guests have been asking how their friends, family, and fellow podmates can book their own safe and relaxing screening, and we’re proud to be able to deliver this to them at such an affordable rate.”
After launching in Austin in August, the model is now expanding to theaters across 12 states.
