After social distancing from their loved ones for over a year, it appears Americans want to make good this Mother’s Day as vaccinations increase and COVID-19 restrictions ease in many areas.
In fact, a new survey shows 80% of Americans want to make up for lost time with their moms this Mother’s Day, which is Sunday, May 9. Eighty-four percent said they want to visit their moms this year more than any other.
The non-scientific poll of 2,000 people sponsored by Groupon also showed that after 2020, 64% said they’re more appreciative of their mothers than ever, and 65% say they view their mom as a superhero.
Sixty percent listed spending time with their mom as their motivation for getting vaccinated. Since older Americans were the first who were eligible to get the shot, chances are mom and dad already beat their children to the vaccine.
Seventy-six percent of respondents said they want their mom to have the best Mother’s Day ever in 2021, to make up for everything that was 2020, while 60% of moms said the past year was their most stressful as a parent.
As for how they intend to spoil mom this year, 32% say they want her to spend time with family, 29% said they were getting her flowers, 24% want to take mom to a fancy restaurant, and 23% said they want to cook her a special meal.
And speaking of spoiling mom, the National Retail Federation shows that this year, shoppers will spend an average of $220.48 on her in 2021, up $16 from last year.
