In Illinois, there are an estimated 45,000 people living with HIV and AIDS, and about 1,300 people are diagnosed in Illinois every year. HIV harms the body’s immune system and a cure, as of today, does not exist. But, with the proper medical care, people can live long, happy lives whilst having HIV. AIDS Foundation Chicago works tirelessly to create equity and justice for people living with HIV and its chronic conditions, with a goal of one day having no new HIV cases. Every child, no matter their disabilities, should have access to quality education, healthcare and access to careers when they get older. These necessities become especially difficult for children with disabilities born in 3rd world countries. The Faraja Fund Foundation built the Faraja Primary School in Tanzania to give children with disabilities the opportunity for a life of self-sufficiency in mind, body, and spirit.
